Question: Which public university in Georgia is known for its English department?
I want to get my bachelor's in English. Which GA school would be best?

Best Answer
The rankings of English Literature departments is highly correlated with the rankings of universities. The better universities tend to have better English departments. Georgia has two outstanding public universities -- Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia. While Georgia Tech is the higher rated school, because it is a Technical Institute, University of Georgia will have the better English department. US News ranks the University of Georgia at #59 in their ranking of public univesities -- which is a pretty high ranking (Ga Tech is #35). Other public universities in the state -- like Georgia State are ranked very low.

Question: What are some good colleges/universities to major software engineering in?

For that field, you can major in software engineering specifically, or in computer science. About half the people who practice as software engineers actually majored in CS. The best advice I can give to you in terms of being in the "safe zone" for a job once you graduate, is this: - Go to a quality school, a reputable school that is appropriately accredited (ABET) - Make sure that you do at least one co-op or internship in the field before you graduate. This will make you MUCH more attractive to employers - Do volunteer work in your field, or part-time jobs, on campus or off - Try to maintain over a 3.0 GPA. If that's impossible, at least make sure that your GPA improves over time, and that the last two years you get over a 3.0 for those years - Go to a campus-based program, not via distance learning or online. - Avoid the schools that many employers are polarized about (i.e., some think are crap) such as U of Phoenix, Devry, ITT, Strayer, etc. As for specific universities, I don't know your SAT scores or current GPA, so it's hard to recommend. But I'll give you a range of high quality universities, some quite competitive, and others a bit easier to get in to: - MIT - Carnegie Mellon - Rensselaer Polytechic - Worcester Polytechnic - Cal Tech - U Cal Berkeley - Boston University - Georgia Tech - Clarkson - Penn State - Case Western - Clemson - Drexel - UMass Amherst - U Conn And also look at your own state university - whichever one is considered the best one in your state. Those can be a real bargain.
