Question: Non-party schools? What are some good colleges in cool cities? Where do/did you go?

My sister is applying to colleges soon and I'm trying to help her find universities that I think would be good for her...but I'm sucking at this because she wants non-party schools. But she wants them to be in a cool city that has stuff to do and isn't in the middle of nowhere. She loves music and art and stuff, and she wants to find a college with a really open-minded environment, friendly people, a pretty atmosphere, and where she can make great friends. She just doesn't want the whole drunk every night party thing. I'm supposed to be researching colleges and finding some for her, because she's freaking out thinking there are no good places for her to apply. I've tried to research and help out but I'm helpless, so I thought I'd ask you guys. Do you know of any great colleges that fit her criteria? Also--they can't be ivy league or anything, she's just an average student. Thank you sooo much if you can help!

So she wants a non-party school, in a city or a happening town, with an open minded environment, maybe on the artsy side of things, friendly, in a pretty place, nice campus, and she needs to actually be able to get into the place. Based on all that, I'd suggest she have a look at the following: - Emmanuel College (Boston) - Simmons College (Boston) - Wheelock College (Boston) - Brooklyn College (NY) - Spelman College (Atlanta) - Wesleyan College (Macon, GA) - Howard U (DC) - Fisk U (Nashville) - Agnes Scott College (Decatur, GA) - Flagler College (Saint Augustine, FL) - Suffolk University (Boston) - Manhattan College (NY) - Wagner College (NY) - Northeastern University (Boston) - Temple University (Philly) - University of Miami (FL) - DePaul U (Chicago) - Emerson College (Boston) - The George Washington U (DC) - University of San Francisco - College of Charleston (SC) - Hampshire College (maybe - there is a party scene, but it's not pervasive) (MA) And I really think she might like Simmons and Emerson. Nice schools, fun towns, pretty campuses, friendly people, maybe a bit artsy, and not party schools. And, importantly, all are respectable, but none are super hard to get into. Some of the towns are funkier than others, some larger than others, some schools are artsier than others, some more conservative or more liberal, etc. But all offer the basics of what she's looking for. She needs to look at each one to see if it's really a fit.

There's not much you can take it high school that will really affect what you do in the future. Once you get to college, however, you should start out with some classes in anthropology, which includes archaeology. Your advisers should be able to help you out with that. In regards to Noah's Ark... I'm a Christian, but I consider the story of Noah's Ark to be more along the lines of myth, which isn't exactly a bad thing. Consider this... as early as the 3rd century, some Christians, including Saint Augustine of Hippo, did not find it necessary to treat Genesis as fact. Instead, Genesis might be treated as an artistic or poetic interpretation of events. But what I'm saying falls more into religious studies than anthropology. All the best to you and good luck!
