Question: What are some colleges or universities with great undergraduate philosophy programs?

I'm really interested in studying philosophy in college, and I can't find anything except the philosophical gourmet discussion (which is really vague, and anyhow, I'd like to have a second opinion). In a strange twofer, if you also happen to know some great colleges or universities for agriculture, specifically with organic crops, that would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Question: What are the best philosophy colleges on the West Coast?

Currently, I am a senior in high school and I need to compile a list of potential colleges to apply to. My interests and specialties include sociology, history, psychology, and philosophy (Ethics, metaphysics, political philosophy, social philosophy, etc). My major will be political philosophy or something of the like. What West Coast colleges are best-known for philosophy?

At the undergrad level, check out the schools with traditional/robust or "Great Books" programs, such as: Reed College Pepperdine Occidental College Thomas Aquinas College Whitman College St John's College (New Mexico) St. Mary's College of California Imago Dei College Be aware that Philosophy is no-longer a practical degree for career purposes, except as a stepping stone to professional school, such as Law.

Question: What good colleges are there in California?

Hey I want to move out to California after high school. My grades aren't Stanford level, but there in a good place. So what do you advise?

Possibilities include the following schools, all of which are private. Except for a very few majors, it is not worthwhile to pay out of state undergraduate tuition fees at any campus of the University of California or of the California State University. All of the schools listed below are liberal arts or engineering colleges, except for University of Southern California. They all offer excellent undergraduate education, although not all of them offer all majors. California has no private US News list top-fifty general universities except for Stanford and USC. (I consider Cal Tech in Pasadena to be a science and engineering university, the existence of a few other majors notwithstanding. Admission possibility to it is at about the same level as Stanford.) Consider Pomona College, Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College (engineering), and Pitzer College, all of which are part of the Claremont Colleges group. Also consider Occidental College and USC.

Question: What are some top selective colleges/universities in California?

I'm searching for a list of some of the highly selective/pretty selective colleges and universities in the state of California. I'm so far interested in the UC's (University of California), USC and Claremont Colleges (although the schools are pretty divided by interest). What are some colleges in California that are prestigious, research universities with a wide range of majors? They don't need to be in their own group like the Claremont colleges and the UC's. Thank you in advance!

I want to major in English as well. The schools I'm looking at are Santa Clara University, University of San Francisco, Sonoma State University, University of California Santa Cruz, and Occidental College. SSU and USF are my safety schools and Occidental is definitely a reach for me. I wasn't the best student in high school so if you're looking into top-tier English programs check out UC Berkeley, it has one of the best programs in the nation. I'd also recommend UCSC and Occidental, these schools are well respected in English and the general Humanities plus they offer the artsy vibe I think you're looking for. Good luck.
