Question: what's the difference between college unniversity and lets say law school?

all right. First off, all these three types of schools are institutions of higher education. They come after High School. All of them except for law school, which is considered a graduate school. The only distinct difference between a College and a University is size. A University is much larger and contains a number of schools (or even colleges) within. These inside schools specify in a major area of study, which you will be placed into, if you attend a University. I, for instance, attend Hofstra University and am enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences within Hofstra. If I were to major in Business, I would be in the Frank Zarb school of Business (all within Hofstra). A college is generally much smaller than a University. You can usually major in a variety of fields within a college, however, this always depends on the schools itself. Some schools specify in certain fields of study and don't have others. I, being a Spanish, German and Secondary Education major, for example, couldn't have enrolled at Emerson College in Boston, because that school doesn't offer my major. Emerson is a great college for English and Theater majors, just not Sec. Ed. majors. Now don't quote me on this, because I'm not a law student, but to become a lawyer, you first must complete your undergrad in either pre-law, or some other subject. Then you can enroll into law school, which is essentially like getting your graduate degree in law. A friend of mine is an English major, but will get her graduate degree in law, so she can later become a lawyer. A regular under-graduate degree usually takes about 4 years. A graduate degree can take anywhere between 2 and 4 additional years.

Hey, Emerson College admission is called as very selective. Their admissions rate is 42%. The average GPA is around 3.5-4.0 unweighted and the Average SATs are 1200-1450 combined. You may think this are high scores but they actually aren't. Also remember before deciding in which college to go to always measure your options based on your financial- needs. Good Luck on College!!!
