They are both public university systems. UC = University of California. UC is generally more prestigious, and harder to get into. List of UC schools: UC Berkeley UC Davis UC Irvine UC Los Angeles UC Merced UC Riverside UC San Diego UC San Francisco UC Santa Barbara UC Santa Cruz More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_california CSU= California State University. It is generally considered the 'average' colleges in California. It is 4-year, like UC. List of Cal State Schools: San José State University California State University, Chico San Diego State University San Francisco State University California Polytechnic State University California State University, Fresno Humboldt State University California Maritime Academy California State Polytechnic University, Pomona California State University, Los Angeles California State University, Sacramento California State University, Long Beach California State University, East Bay California State University, Fullerton California State University, Northridge California State University, Stanislaus California State University, Dominguez Hills Sonoma State University California State University, San Bernardino California State University, Bakersfield California State University, San Marcos California State University, Monterey Bay California State University, Channel Islands More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_State_University "Cal State Versus UC" There are three 4-year college systems in California: Private schools (such as Santa Clara or Stanford), California State Universities (CSUs – such as San Jose State or California State University, East Bay), and University of California (UCs – such as University of California, Berkeley or University of California, Davis). The majority of students pursue degrees at either a CSU or UC because they are more affordable than private schools, however many students do not know the difference between the two public education systems. Usually, students say the only difference is that, “UCs are better than CSUs,” but this is not necessarily the case. Although it is true that UCs are more difficult to get admitted into, a UC may not be the best school for you to attend. Here’s why: At the UCs, the programs are more research and theory-oriented. Students study how and why things happen. For example, in a teacher education program, students would study how people learn and various theories of teaching methodologies. On the flip side, the CSU’s were actually created as “teaching colleges”. Therefore the type of education you will receive there will be more hands-on and teach more practical approaches. A teacher education program at a CSU may focus more on specific teaching methods and lesson plans. Depending on your major and what you are looking for, a CSU may have a more applicable program.

Question: Which cal states have a good psychology program?
I'm an incoming senior and I'm trying to narrow down my college search. I know I want to eventually go into a Marriage and Family Therapy program but for now I'm just looking into schools where I can get my bachelor's in psychology. Because of money problems I'm focusing on cal states until I can transfer to maybe a UC or private. I really need help finding a cal state that is actually decent and has a good psychology program. Thanks :)

All Cal States have great psychology programs. I suggest choosing the one that's closest to you, or if you wanna leave the house, a Cal State far from you. Below, I provided all the Cal State's and all over their psychology websites. Remember, any one you choose will be great. You said you wanna transfer to a UC anyways, so it doesn't really matter which on you choose. None are really "better" than the others. They are all "good." And here they are... California State University Bakersfield http://www.csub.edu/psychology/ California State University Channel Islands http://psych.csuci.edu/ California State University Chico http://www.csuchico.edu/psy/ California State University Dominguez Hills http://www.nbs.csudh.edu/psychology/ California State University East Bay http://www20.csueastbay.edu/csci/departments/psychology/index.html California State University Fresno http://www.csufresno.edu/psych/ California State University Fullerton http://hss.fullerton.edu/psychology/ Humboldt State University http://www.humboldt.edu/psychology/grad/counseling.htm California State University Long Beach http://www.csulb.edu/colleges/cla/departments/psychology/ California State University Los Angeles http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/psych/html/deptmenu.php Well, I didn't wanna fill out everything, but you get the idea. Here are the other schools. Check out their websites. Peace. California Maritime Academy California State University Monterey Bay California State University Northridge California State Polytechnic University, Pomona California State University Sacramento California State University San Bernardino San Diego State University San Francisco State University San Jose State University California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo California State University San Marcos Sonoma State University California State University Stanislaus
