Question: Where can I find a list of private colleges in Pennsylvania?
I've already tried CollegeBoard, but I can't even search for the degree I want. It doesn't even show that the colleges have the degree at all, even when they really do.

Search on collegeboard.com (I think you may need to have taken your PSATs to use the site though) Here's what I found, and you can learn about each one on that site: Allied Medical and Technical Institute Forty Fort, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Antonelli Institute of Art and Photography Erdenheim, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Art Institute of Philadelphia Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Art Institute of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Art Institute of York York, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Art Institute Online Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Berks Technical Institute Wyomissing, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Bidwell Training Center Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Bradford School: Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Bryn Athyn College of the New Church Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Bryn Mawr College Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Bucknell University Lewisburg, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Cambria-Rowe Business College Johnstown, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Cambria-Rowe Business College: Indiana Indiana, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Career Training Academy New Kensington, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Career Training Academy: Monroeville Monroeville, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Career Training Academy: Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Cedar Crest College Allentown, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Central Pennsylvania College Summerdale, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Chatham University Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] CHI Institute: Broomall Broomall, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] CHI Institute: Franklin Mills Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Commonwealth Technical Institute Johnstown, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Consolidated School of Business: Lancaster Lancaster, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Consolidated School of Business: York York, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Curtis Institute of Music Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Dean Institute of Technology Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Delaware Valley College Doylestown, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] DeVry University: Fort Washington Fort Washington, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Dickinson College Carlisle, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Douglas Education Center Monessen, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Drexel University Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] DuBois Business College DuBois, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] DuBois Business College: Huntingdon Huntingdon, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] DuBois Business College: Oil City Oil City, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Erie Business Center Erie, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Erie Business Center South New Castle, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Erie Institute of Technology Erie, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Franklin & Marshall College Lancaster, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Gettysburg College Gettysburg, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Harcum College Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Harrisburg University of Science and Technology Harrisburg, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Haverford College Haverford, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] Hussian School of Art Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] International Academy of Design and Technology: Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] ITT Technical Institute: Bensalem Bensalem, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] ITT Technical Institute: King of Prussia King of Prussia, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] ITT Technical Institute: Monroeville Monroeville, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] ITT Technical Institute: Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania [ Compare ] [ LikeFind ] [ Add to list ] There's a lot more! Question: What are some colleges that offer archaeology as a major?
Definately north of Washington D.C. and preferably no farther west than Wisconsin or Michigan, but that's not mandatory. I'd also be willing to go to school in Canada. If the schools also have a D1 cross country team it would be great! But if you don't know about that then you can just send me the links to those schools with archaeology majors in general.

Question: What colleges offer a degree in archaeology?
Looking for a college that offers a degree in archaeology somewhere in the northeast...I hope. Any colleges would be helpfull. For anyone else who answeres: I may be young, but am not a woman...I think my paramedic education covered the difference... My grades were average and my ACT scors were...not so good. I will be relying heavily on my charming personality, essay writing abilities and my credentials as a paramedic at the age of 20.

Bard College (NY) Boston University (MA) Bowdoin College (ME) Bridgewater State College (MA) Brown University (RI) Bryn Mawr College (PA) CUNY: Hunter College (NY) Cornell University (NY) Columbia University (NY) Dickinson College (PA) Hamilton College (NY) Harvard University (MA) Haverford College (PA) Lycoming College (PA) SUNY Potsdam (NY) Tufts University (MA) Wellesley College (MA) Wesleyan University (CT) Yale University (CT) If you are a young woman with outstanding SAT scores, and an interest in a single-sex school, I'd strongly suggest Bryn Mawr. If you have outstanding SAT scores, and are not interested in a single-sex school, I'd suggest you take close looks at Bowdoin, Brown, Columbia, Harvard, Haverford, and Yale. If you don't test well, or if your grades are but average, the schools on this list that are less selective are Bridgewater State, Lycoming, and SUNY Potsdam.

Question: Can you name some colleges that don't have a drinking culture?
A friend of mine is a junior in high school. He has experienced a lot of upheaval in his life due to alcohol abuse by his parents, and he really would like to go to a college where the social atmosphere isn't dominated by alcohol. He is a good student, and could get into a competitive college but probably not "most competitive". Undoubtedly there is alcohol use and abuse everywhere, but we have heard from many current college students that it would be hard to be part of the social life of the college without drinking. Are there any colleges where this is not so prevalant? He is primarily interested in colleges in the US or Canada.

Just like there's a top Party School list, there is a top Stone-Cold Sober list. The lists are determine between how many hours the average student parties to how many hours the student studies. Most of the Stone-Cold schools are private, religious universities and military academies. Before, your friend starts applying like mad to Stone-Cold schools, he needs to do some research on the schools and the college towns (like how BYU is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). Don't let the title of "Party School" turn your friend away from great education opportunities. The cities where party schools are located have a lot more to do then to party out of boredom. Also, no one in college is going to put you down in college for refusing to drink nor force you to drink. If someone asks why you refuse to drink, you can always tell the person why ("it's against my religion", "personal reasons", "I just don't feel like drinking"). The top Stone-Cold schools: 1. Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. 2. Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill. 3. U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn. 4. College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Mo. 5. Grove City College, Grove City, Pa. 6. U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. 7. U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md. 8. Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass. 9. Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Ga. 18. City University of New York-Baruch College, New York. 19. Simmons College, Boston. 20. Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, Pa. Top Party Schools: 1. Penn State University, State College, Pa. 2. University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla. 3. University of Mississippi, Oxford, Miss. 4. University of Georgia, Athens, Ga. 5. A number of Canadian universities have excellent programs, and many excellent programs are in the US. This really will depend on what you want to specialize in. Th e College of William and Mary ,for instance, is a well known school and has a good anthropology department, but only if you're interested in pursuing a course in historical archaeology (American). William and Mary has few courses relating to Egyptology,Classical Archaeology, or other types of archaeology. First , you should decide on the area you want to focus on, then check out schools with those programs. For instance, Brown University has two good departments-- one in Egyptology and one in Archaeology of the Ancient World; Bryn Mawr College had the nation's first department of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology and is world famous; and the University of Arizona, University of Michigan, and the University of Pennsylvania have anthropology departments that are considered among the the nation's top five or six programs---you can specialize in archaeology at those three schools. The University of Chicago is well known for its Near Eastern programs-many consider the university the best American school for Near Eastern archaeological study. Also, take a look at schools with separate departments of archaeology, as opposed to schools with anthropolgy departments only. Boston University, Bryn Mawr College, and Brown University all have stand alone archaeology departments. Finally, check out the Society for American Archaeology website. There is a list, though old, of the best programs in the US. Many are in the west, as many American archaeologists specialize in Native American archaeology. Hope this helps!
