To be entirely honest, I don't think this kid is ready for college. In addition, his major obstacle to being admitted to another school is not his GED nor his grades - it's that he was dismissed for breaking rules. That is going to be an issue. And if he refused to work in high school, and then in community college, is that going to change once he reaches a full college? If you really think that it is going to change if he finds the right college, then good. I will recommend some schools to you. But if you don't think so, then he really needs to go live his life for a while. He needs to join the military, or work full time, and then see what benefits a college degree will bring him. A lot of my current adult students are like him - they weren't motivated to do well when they were younger. They certainly are smart, but they weren't motivated. Now, older, having worked without a college degree for a while, some even having families, they see what a college degree can buy them. And they're amongst my best students. But right now, there are colleges he can look at. He'll need to talk a good game on that application to prove to them that his disciplinary issues are firmly in the past, but if he does so, he stands a shot.
